What good is having knowledge of math, language arts, science or social studies if you do not have a true understanding of the information with the ability to apply it to your life? In the Family and Consumer Science department, we focus on bridging the gap between classroom academics and real life skills. As a FACS teacher, I provide students with hands on opportunities to practice life skills such as character development, cooking, career exploration, money management, nutrition, babysitting, etc…. I have been in this profession for the past eight years. Before this, I specialized in early childhood education. You can definitely say that I am passionate about what I do. I love that students enjoy my classes and look forward to their projects. This year I am teaching Home and Career Skills, Human Development and Clothing and Fashion. In previous years some other courses I have taught included: Child Development, International Foods, Gourmet Foods and Food and Nutrition. With the obesity epidemic going on in our nation today, I take pride in educating youngsters about how to make wise food choices and maintain healthy bodies. As a tutor, I am available to offer advice and enrichment for any FACS topic. Together, with parents, I would like tp help students become independent caretakers of their own lives .
