I qualified as a nursery teacher some 11 years ago prior to starting work at a local primary school as a reception teacher – a position I held for 4 years. I then gained employment with the specialist teaching service (alternative curriculum) in Kent working with primarily year 5 and 6 pupils who are identified as vulnerable. We focus on social skills although do look at the curriculum to support class based learning. I do not work in one single school instead I work within at least 12 schools during the academic year for a set amount of weeks – this allows me the flexibility to work from home in the late afternoon/evening as a tutor. I specialise in 11+ tuition with 12 out of 14 students passing the test last year. A pass cannot be guaranteed of course but I think this shows the children I support willingness to learn and my understanding of the tests themselves.
