How to find a good tutor

There are lots of tutors out there so how do you make sure you choose a good one?

Here are our top-tips...

Find the right style

Choose somebody whose style matches what you are looking for. You may need somebody soft and gentle or perhaps you need somebody who will be firm and disciplined. Different people work well with different approaches. A good tutor is capable of tailoring the lessons to suit the style of the student.

Referrals.

People are usually very happy to recommend good tutors so if a friend or teacher recommends a tutor then they are more than likely pretty good.

Past Success

Ask your potential tutor for examples of past success. If your tutor is new then you will have to look a other factors such as qualifications and experience in their subject to help you decide on their capabilities.

Qualifications

This is more relevant for academic subjects. Ask your tutor for proof of their qualifications. They should be more than happy to show you. Qualifications are not so important if you have been referred by a happy student or you have proof of the tutor's past successes.

Feedback

It is important to receive regular feedback from both the tutor and the student to make sure everybody is happy with the level of tuition provided as well as the effort of the student.

Rapport

One of the most important factors in successful tuition of any kind is having a good rapport between the tutor and tutee. No matter how qualified a tutor may be, if you are not happy in their company then it's not going to work.
